Electrogalvanized steel is carbon steel with a corrosion-resistant zinc coating applied to one or both sides by electro-deposition. The continuous electrolytic coating process covers the steel surface with an exceptionally uniform thickness, which can enhance forming and joining operations. The process is ideal for applications where exceptional uniform thickness is paramount.

Electrogalvanizing is a process used to apply a protective zinc coating to steel or iron to prevent rusting.

This method involves the following steps:

• Surface Preparation: To remove rust, oil, and debris, the steel surface undergoes a thorough cleaning process. This is typically accomplished through a series of chemical baths, including degreasing and acid pickling.

• Zinc Electroplating: The clean steel is used as the cathode after being immersed in a zinc electrolyte solution (A cathode is the electrode where reduction occurs in an electrochemical reaction, meaning it’s where positively charged ions gain electrons.). Zinc ions are deposited onto the steel surface as an electric current passes through the solution, forming a uniform, tightly bonded zinc layer that delivers superior corrosion resistance.

• Post-Treatment: To enhance adhesion and corrosion resistance, the coated steel may undergo additional treatments, such as chromate conversion coating, after electroplating. This procedure improves the finished product's visual appeal.
• Quality Control: To ensure the zinc coating is consistent and meets the required thickness requirements, the coated steel is examined.
